Public amenities for Castle Hill

A new Co-op convenience store and pub hotel are set to become part of the Castle Hill development in Ebbsfleet Garden City.

Co-op, the area’s first major retailer, will take one of five retail units in the Castle Hill village centre in Eastern Quarry currently being created by developer Newcrest.

Newcrest agreed a joint venture with Land Securities to develop the retail provision in the area, which will also feature 46 shared ownership apartments and 10 townhouses, due to be completed by the end of the year.

Family-owned brewery Shepherd Neame, based in Kent since 1698, has also acquired a site in the centre of Castle Hill, where the firm will build a pub hotel with 17 bedrooms, restaurant and function suite.

Craig Smith, regional acquisitions manager for Co-op, said: "We’re looking forward to opening a new store in Castle Hill. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to provide shoppers with our wide range of award-winning food."

Ian Piper, chief executive at Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, said: “With the village centre starting to take shape for Castle Hill residents and in Eastern Quarry where two more villages are planned, an education campus and a whole range of retail facilities and open spaces, you can see why the people in our communities love living in Ebbsfleet Garden City.”

Ebbsfleet Garden City now has more than 1,300 completed homes, a new primary school and hotel.
