Families flock to see Ebbsfleet’s first school

The first school to open in Ebbsfleet Garden City held an open morning on 26 November.

More than 30 families met with the staff at Cherry Orchard Primary Academy at The Observatory and saw the progress of work on the school, which is on track to open in September 2017.

Simon Beamish, CEO, and Sue Crocker, business director of Leigh Academies Trust, the organisation which will run the school, took part in the event, along with Karen Major, executive principal for Dartford Primary Academy and Cherry Orchard Primary Academy.

The event included a ‘digital fly-through’ of the new building and the opportunity to look at plans. Parents were advised on how to apply for places within the nursery, reception and years one and two. Applications for reception should be done through the Kent County Council admissions process and applications for nursery places through contact with the trust.

Crocker told Ebbsfleet Garden City magazine that the plans were “extremely well received” by the families, adding: “All those attending were keen that Cherry Orchard Primary Academy remains a local school for children from the Ebbsfleet Garden City.”

She said that development of the scheme was progressing well and confirmed that the school will be open for the start of the next academic year.

Enquiries on the application process should be made to Jo.Allen@latrust.org.uk. More information is available here.
